Not sure why but I am in love with this thing. It's 2.5"long. Not sure if the really dark, almost black tone is intentional distress or not. No marks whatsoever

Wowza! It's gorgeous. The clasp looks like a fairly old one. I believe the back of the piece has been 'Japanned'. I don't understand Japanning too much, I don't know if it's the whole piece or just the back that undergoes this blackening?

The top side of your brooch has certainly been hi-lighted by the coating.
I'd be in love with it, too! The green color is gorgeous. Looks to be from the early part of the 20th century. Rivet hinge, C clasp.
