I recently acquired several items from a soldier who served in WW2 in the 801st Military Police (MP) Battalion.
The highlite for me were these envelopes that each had a hand drawn picture of a provocatively dressed woman. The envelopes were mailed in 1944, while the unit was in Australia. The style is similar to WW2 airplane nose art. The lettering on the envelopes looks like it was done by a draftsman, but I have no information on who he was. He was certainly a great friend of PVT Sorrells and must have kept unit morale high.
In addition to the envelopes, I was able to get several photographs, paperwork and other drawings.
The 801st was a Pacific theater unit activated at Fort Ord in 1942. The unit participated in the New Guinea and LuzonCampaigns. It was inactivated in 1946 in the Phillipines.
