I love porcelain chintz, especially patterns by Royal Winton and my favorite is Royal Winton Royalty.
My mother loved this pattern also and you left me the 9-inch bowl that is shown here. I'm not sure where and how she acquired it, but it's sat in our dining room Hutch my whole life. After she passed away and I begin collecting, I have acquired just a few more pieces shown here. I love the colors in this pattern..... so bright and sunny.
This is a beautiful pattern of Winton Chintz that is one of my favourites also. Loved seeing it at the Calgary shows in the 1990's before the internet. We had a lot of Chintz sent over from England back in the day. Eatons carried it also. I believe I read at one time that Canada got more china from England than the U.S. At that time in the 90's I did the show circuit with a friend who sold a lot of chintz at his shop. I loved doing the shows with him as he only bought at the shows I did as he sold to a huge client list in Toronto in his store, which is now closed as he moved to Montreal.
The Charlton Standard Catalog of Chintz says this :
Royalty: The pattern number is 3079. The pattern was introduced at the 1936 British Industries Fair. The "Pottery Gazette" mentioned Royalty again in describing the BIF: "Furnishers long catered for, and others knowing Grimwades prediliction for good chintz colourings, should be attracted to the new SWEET PEA & ROYALTY patterns." The alternate colour is Majestic (3311) with a black background. Royalty continues to be very popular with chintz collectors around the world. This is one of the patterns Royal Winton is planning to reproduce in 1999/2000.
The chilton books usually have a lot of dealers advertising Chintz in that book.
