This Victorian hand vase is made from a single layer of opaque white glass with painted & enamelled decoration. An uncommon left - handed specimen, it is also of a larger size than typically seen, with a very wide crimped top rim. It measures 26 cm tall, 14 cm across the top rim, & 9.5 cm across the base. The hand has been painted in a flesh tone, & the vase has enamelled decoration & traces of gilding.
Most likely Bohemian origin.
Wow. The painting on this is extraordinary. That hand is lifelike.
What a vase to have IL! Left handed too!!
Many thanks, racer4four...I have a few other hand vases with the hand painted in flesh tones...it adds a pleasing touch of realism...or perhaps even uncanny Surrealism...
I like the ring detail, it adds to its realistic or surrealistic appearance.
Many thanks, Vintagefran - the rings are definitely a nice touch - & there is one type of hand vase that even has a wristwatch! That one is Indian carnival glass.
