Old carved wood bird seagull duck decoy

We've had this old carved wood bird / seagull / duck decoy for a long time and have always wondered about it. 12" long. Carved initials on the bottom appear to be "M.M" or "WW". As you can see from the photos, the bark was used to represent the feathers. It feels almost petrified, extremely hard wood, no flaking of bark areas. Beak is painted. Any info would be great.
