My dad was a wood carver and I found this box of tools. I found this box in a cabinet that was not with his usual chisels and other tools. Am curious about them and their age.

Here is some good info. on your Dad's Chisels. Unless you have a receipt, date code, or other provenance to go by, you can only get close to the actual date his tools were sold to him. Nice looking Set, and Good Luck.

Between 1885 and 1900 the chisels were marked "Jennings and Griffin"

      1901 Jennings was
making the chisels in their Yalesville, CT plant and were marking them
as CE Jennings, until maybe the early 1930s.

I found the above in tool archives. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the info! Izengish, my dad passed away in January and there is no telling when and where he bought the box of chisels but I thought they were special when I found them. My son is getting them but I wanted to have a little information to pass along to him.

Fhrjr2, thank you for the info. I showed the set to a gentleman who owns an antique mall and he just said "Wow!" and that he knew nothing about them but he did think they were around 100 years old.

Joymac these appear to have the leather butt cap. Jennings patented that so if you researched their patents it would narrow the date made down more. I have no doubt they are close to or over 100 years old. It is a fine looking well kept set. I wish mine were the same. Thanks for sharing them with us.
