I am clearing out my mom's house and we came across this table/shelf unit. I believe it's over a hundred years old but that's about all I know about it. It belonged to my grandma who passed away in 1989. It's really cool how it folds into a table! Thanks for any information you can provide!
That is a folding sideboard dining table.
I think you are a bit generous with your age estimate.
I will ask my mom again, but she said it's over 100 years old.....and my grandma passed away in 1979 at the age of 89, and this was her table when she was young woman, so early 1900s or so. Thanks for letting me know WHAT is LOL!
lewisfamily503, I have little doubt it is at least close to 100 years old but I question it being over 100. Your pictures are limited and very dark. They show none of the construction or joinery or even hardware and casters. Those are all points to consider when trying to date a piece. You have a rather unusual item that deserves research but also an honest account of what it is.
i would think from what shown it may be late 30's to early 1940's. People always add at least 60 uears if a grandmother owned it. But the facts are that older people are buying things and furniture until the day they die.
Very true Phil, just like finding something in a 150 year old building and assuming the item is the same age. People constantly upgrade items with newer things. That is why research is important.
