I spent this last weekend at the Richmond Civil War Show and was able to purchase some interesting 19th century images.
This is an 1860s, Civil War era carte de visite of an African American Mammy or Nanny holding a child.
This genre of photographs is very popular with collectors.
The cdv has been corner trimmed to fit into an album.
Unfortunately, this image was made on a blank cdv mount, so we are left not knowing where the scene was photographed.
Reproduction of these images in any form is prohibited.
