Wondering if this cabinet is from a Mobile Oil station or office and it's approximate age. No idea of value. I've not been able to find another cabinet like it. Cabinet was painted gray before we became owners of it. Measures 60.5"H x 36"W x 16"D. The pegasus is 5.5" hoof to hoof and approximately 5" tall.

Acquired this tool cabinet in St.Louis in house we purchased around 1990 just south of The Hill. House was built in 1920's. We were third owners, second owners were there approximately 3 years. It was my understanding that the first owner was an electrical engineer.

Sure looks like the Mobil Pegasus to me too. That's a cool cabinet too.

I have a friend who has Pegasus on about everything he owns. He isn't in any way associated with Mobil Oil. Pegasus image alone does not give you a connection to Mobile. This cabinet is homemade for sure. Nobody would produce something with the joinery shown on the doors in the first picture.

Appreciate your comments. So these raised metal decals (proper term?) were sold back then? I've not seen those either.

They were used as advertising. The company gave them to garages so they would display them as an advertisement for their product. Major companies give dealers all kinds of stuff to promote their products. Budweiser gives them Bud signs and display racks, coke and Pepsi do the same. When a newer thing comes along you can get the old items free if you know someone or even look where they throw the old stuff away. Associating these with the company may be difficult unless they are marked. I would be tempted to remove one and examine the back side for any kind of marking. If you could establish an age of these and they are actually original they are not associated with Mobile Oil they would trace back to Vacuum Oil Company. It was Vacuum Oil who first registered the Pegasus as their trademark. Vacuum was either bought by or merged with Mobile.
