This carte de visite shows an often repeated 19th century scene-- the death of a child.
In the 19th century child mortality rates were high and most families experienced the loss of a child or two due to disease.
This 1860s cdv was photographed by Schoenberg of Cincinnati Ohio and shows the departed child in a small carriage.

A very sad CDV indeed! Very sad how so many children, as well as adults, were lost to illness and decease back then.
Thanks for looking and commenting scott-- appreciate you taking the time!

Thanks jlmam and fort.

Very sad. It seems morbid today, with photos being so easy to come by, but I can quite understand the family wanting a reminder of their loved one.
Agree-- very sad.
Thanks for looking fran.
