    (1 item)

This has been in the family since the 1960's or so. Not sure how it was acquired. About 18" in height and very heavy (~12 lbs). No markings.

Just wondering if it has any value. Thank you!!

Gillian - I didn't mean to post looking for a monetary value. I was just trying to get an idea of the origin of the piece. For instance I was thinking possibly Murano, but from my searches on the web I believe it is too heavy and not "imperfect" on the base - which might indicate Chinese manufacturing. So to me Murano would be a higher "value" than something mass produced in China at the time.

Just hoping someone on the site can provide some information. Thanks!

Hey carjack... Your fish is definitely Murano. I've seen this example attributed to Alfredo Barbini, but I would need to look it up for you, but I just have too many books to go through with very little time. It's executed in a style called "somemerso" where the interior - purple fish - was made and then cased in crystal-clear glass. The tiny bubbles on your piece are called "Bollicini", which basically means little bubbles. I hope this helps.

Thank's so much Rick! I just looked up some similar pieces by Alfredo Barbini and I see similarities. If it is truly a Murano it's so nice to know!!

I'm sure Rick is right on that caprjack44, he's very knowledgeable in that area. So with that being said, it is now a solved mystery.
