I found this beautiful decanter set and I'm not sure what I have. The lid says Gorham Sterling 1675. The decanter is about 4" tall. The set is in a black leather case with dark purple velvet lining. Also in the case is a small plate, I assume for the decanter, and a rack with 4 very small shot glasses. There appears to be 2 more spots for the small glasses, maybe two are missing? Please help if you can. Rsavoie87@gmail.com

This could be a small Communion set used by a clergyman needing to visit someone who needs the Sacrament at home, or in hospital? \

A very good picture of the Gorham mark. I don't believe the 1675 to be a date.

Absolutely agree with Gillian, it is a set used by a priest or clergyman to deliver the 'communion sacraments' to the ill or infirm who otherwise cannot attend church.

The decanter would be filled with 'sanctified wine', the tray would be for the 'host' wafers, which would have likely been kept in another similar (now missing?) jar or container.

Visit your local Episcopal or Catholic Church -- they'll be able to tell you all about it! :-)
