A collection of books by the American author Winston Churchill, of St Louis. Churchill was the first author of historical fiction who researched his subjects and their communities in an effort to insure historical accuracy. His novels, starting around 1900 proved so popular that booksellers began keeping track of sales, the beginnings of today's bestseller lists.
Winston Churchill was roughly the contemporary of the British statesman by the same name. Out of deference to the American author's popularity, "British Winston" published in the U.S. as "Winston S. Churchill"
The two men knew each other, at least through correspondence, as both men had careers in politics, "American Winston" running for state office at the same time that "British Winston" ran for a seat in Parliament. Supposedly, "British Winston" wrote to "American Winston" with the suggestion that "when you are president and I am prime minster, we should meet for dinner"
