Vintage, Brazilian mid-century Jet Age, pale lemon yellow and black, ceramic tea service. (15 pieces in all — including lids).

Would love any info on the maker of this set.

"A wonderful example of Jet Age design"
    — James Infante, one of the organizers of the New York Winter Antiques Show

A RARE EXAMPLE of ceramic art from Rio de Janeiro for collectors of mid-century design, sure to impress that girl or boy from Ipanema. This set was lovingly used in one of those expansive 1950s apartments that overlook the undulating black and white tiled Ipanema promenade and the beach beyond. That was until it was gifted to me by my Brazilian girlfriend back in the 90s.

Don't have that girlfriend anymore, but I do still have this fabulous tea set. I love it but haven't had room to display it in some years, so I want to see that it finds a suitable new home where it can shine.

Each of the unique serving pieces seamlessly blends subtle curves with pointed soft switchback handles, the shallow domed lids rise to dorsal fin grips, and the interplay of glossy black and yellow throughout the set seems near perfect.

I have been looking for many months to find another set to compare it to, but have never found another even remotely like it. And now, if your lucky, this one can be YOURS.

    CONDITION:
Very good shape except for the crack in the teapot, one good side, one not (PHOTO 2). There is also a small chip off the bottom of the teapot spout which can’t be seen when displayed.

All the other pieces are in very good shape, only minor wear and tear, the underside of the larger pieces show some scuffing and wear (PHOTO 5). The glaze throughout has some minor pin-dot inperfections, in the photos on the black saucers they do catch light and make it look as though there are little dings. In person the pin-dots don't stand out or take away from the stunning yellow oval cups on the black oblong saucers.

    DIMENSIONS:
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the irregular shapes of the pieces all MEASUREMENTS ARE APPROXIMATE:

    Teapot with lid: 11 1/2” long x 4 1/2" wide, 4 1/2” tall including lid

Tea Cups (4): 5" long including handle, 2 1/4" tall, oval opening is 3" wide

    Oblong Saucers (4): 6" long x 5" wide

Butter Dish with lid: dish is 6 1/4" long x 5” wide, Butter Dish Lid is 4 1/2"” long 3 1/2"” wide, 2 1/2” tall.

Sugar Bowl with lid: bowl is 4.5” long x 4” tall, including lid.

Creamer: 8” long from handle to spout, 3”" tall, 4” wide
