I have finally got round to looking through a bag of stones that I have collected over the last few years of rooting around in the bottom of jewellery cabinets and looking for bits & bobs, I am wondering if anyone can tell me more about this stone I have picked out.

It appears to be, like so many cameos, cut from a member of the Cassidae (helmet) family of seashells, probably in the 1950s.

Hi - Me again. Not sure whether you are just giving us a bit more info or doubting the cameo is shell because of small size. If former, yes, probably cut to be used in a ring or earring. If latter, small size does not rule out shell, but can often disguise the curvature characteristic of helmet shell cameos if a small section has been taken from a very large shell. :)
