I don't know what the material of this bangle is, but it does show some age. It looks like it is carved with a very basic pattern.

    Thanks for looking:)

Most likely it is Lucite - unless you got lucky and you were able to snag a Bakelight bangle under their noses. I don't know if you did buy it? Anyway, Bakelight is out of my price range which is very sad.

here is my black carved bakelite bracelet

Mary, let me start by responding to your comment. I totally agree with your statement that black is always in style! I love black. If you could look into my closet you would find at least 75% of my winter stuff in black and for the summer it is at least 75%beige of white. That's pretty boring but easy to wear - LOL.
As for my bangle, of course I wish it was Bakelite but I cannot test it because in Canada I don't seem to be able to find Simichrome. I'll have to either order on line of travel to the States. Hm, the later seems to be not such a bad idea!

I wish, antiquerose! The bangle also doesn't have the feel of Lucite. I think that there is a very small possibility that it could be Bakelite. If it isn't, it's some other kind of plastic, but I really have no idea. I will keep searching the Internet and maybe I will come across an answer:)

Mary, I always love to read your comments. There is always some wisdom in it:)
      I'll follow your tips!
I have seen some good deals for Bakelite on the Internet recently, too. But I am in Canada, and some sellers don't ship here, and the ones that do ask for very high shipping and handling fees. That, in combination with the low Canadian Dollar, plus possible taxes and duties, makes it financially very unattractive to buy online.
I can imagine that you stand out with the orange eyeglasses. I need to get new one as well. Maybe I should be a little bit more daring!
      Enjoy your weekend!

Oh, I forgot: I measured the darn thing and it is just a bit shy of 2 1/2 inches (that's the inside) !?

Many thanks for your comment and link, lentilka11. I really love yours!

Gillian, many thanks for your comment, too. Sorry for my late reply. I am a bit behind with everything. I try to do too many things at the same time and as a result nothing gets done!
Where I mostly shop, prices are completely random and at the same time out of control. Anything silver is overpriced and even plastic sometimes costs more there than in a retail store. Figure that! However, once in a while, something slips through the crack. I don't think the employees doing the pricing know always the difference between modern junk and vintage Bakelite, Celluloid, or other materials. Sometimes, rarely though, I get lucky.
In antique stores, Bakelite is very expensive here. But in addition, the pieces for sale are not really impressive. So I have to pass:(
