Hey All,
One of my favorite stones is garnet. Early 1900's has been estimated but will be taking it to a professional. No hallmarks.
Center Garnet stone: estimated 10 Carats (will verify)
3 Large Garnet stones: 1 Carat each (will verify)
Surrounding garnet stones: ??
Garnet beads in the necklace...??
It's beautiful! However, if not set in precious metal then the stones are most likely going to be glass. Glass scratches fairly easily and the edges become worn. It's also very dirty - a wipe with a soft, damp cloth should remedy it.
Very pretty . I have a garnet set that is not set in precious metal that is from the 50's it was my mothers so it is special to me :-)
Efesgirl - I'm always so worried about what to clean things with. I hope it's not all glass as it was basically a gift from a friend who knew I loved garnets and knew I had coveted the necklace. However, nothing surprises me anymore. I'm taking this necklace along with the fine jewelry I inherited from my Mom and Grandmother to an appraiser at some point in the next few weeks so I'll know then.
Thanks, Manikin, I know what you mean about it being special as it was your Mom's. I'll bet it's a lovely set. If you haven't posted it before, you should. The jewelry I am the happiest in sharing are ones that come from within my family.
Thanks to valentino97, Manikin, Efesgirl, Caperkid, TassieDevil, and aura for taking time to share some "love".
I will post it Karen . One stone came loose and I need to ask our jewelry people what glue to use to put it back in. Pendant and earrings .
