I clean out storage units in Ruidoso New Mexico.
I found this key was some other military information.
I really didn't think about it too much till I contacted a friend of mine in Bavaria.
She sent me some information about who stayed in this hotel before World War II during World War II and after World War II.
    For example,
    Adolf Hitler
    Eva Braun.
    Duke and Duchess of Windsor.
    British prime minister Neville Chamberlain.
    Joseph Goebbels.
    Heinrich Himmler.
    Erwin Rommel.

OK, I'll bite. What's the purpose of the thing the key is through? Obviously, the key rotates in it; does it come it out? Why does it have that part with the rubber(?) spacer?

That is called a Key Fob, which i guess was on the same line as our old time service station crapper key, with chain and brick attached. Quite Common in old Germany.

Uh, yeah, Cadillac, I know what a key fob is. As the site you referenced shows, that piece is not a fob in any traditional sense because it is not attached to the key by a ring. It obviously has some purpose specific to old European hotels. So, my questions still stand: What is its purpose & does the key come out of it?
