cut crystal ashtray

I have tried to find this cut glass pattern but no luck. There is no etching mark and I can't find out who made it or how old it is. The deeply cut pattern is continuous on the outside with smooth glass on the inside and it is really sparkly and brilliant. I don't know what kind of metal the rim is made of so I haven't tried to clean it yet -- I'm thinking brass?
Any help will be much appreciated!
