This little guy was a generous gift from my friend at the antique store. She kept telling me..."Oh I have a gift to give you that you'll just love...but I forgot to bring it." So today she finally remembered.
I had stopped by on my day off a few weeks ago to help load a large Eastlake dresser that she had sold despite my back being a bit touchy. She took a velvet cloth out of her shopping bag unwrapped it and handed me this awesome little bank. She knows I collect Scottie dogs and I often bring my Scottie "Mitzi" to the store when I visit. Everyone loves to see her but she is such a mooch. She knows when we go it's usually for lunch with my friends an she takes full advantage to beg a morsel from all of them. What a life she has !
There are no marks on this piece. However I did find one on Ebay which dated it to 1930 and Vanio as the maker. Some examples online show white or black versions but this green appears to be the original color. They did tend to get fresh coats of paint over the years. I don't have the key for the little trap door on the bottom. but it looks intact and in working order. What a great gift ! -Mike-
What a great gift, Mike! Give Mitzi a big smooch for me :-))))
Thanks so much Bonnie ....and I sure will. :)
Mike,
That is really a great Scottie bank. I have actually never seen one like this until now. I'm officially jealous:) Wonderful gift!!!
Thanks Scott..that's high praise indeed as you know more about these type of pieces than I do. He has such a sad look...much like Mitzi when I have to leave her home. :)
Thanks Val for the "love" and nice comment. :)
Wonderful Scottie dog, love them so much, all love recepticles and great story !~
Thanks so much Phil. Yes they are and not a breed you see that much anymore other than the Westies or Cairns. :)
Scottie dogs are awesome! Nice Post :)
Thanks for the "love" and comment buckethead .....they sure are. :)
He's so perfect for you! I saw you on so I thought I'd come by and say hi real quick! Sweet gift. I picked up one of these in bronze, it's got a pipe holder attached. Good to see you!
Hi Share and thanks...yes I'm an early riser. My cat sees to that. ...of course Mitzi has gotten used to the early hours too but she'll go back to sleep. I've always loved the early morning. My brain seems to function better too along with a cup of coffee...lol. :)
Oh he is adorable! Look at that face. So charming.
