    Hi all!

***Update, Meet Chief Gotcha Boarstooth! Anyway, here's the best I could do without knowing how to add silversmith type work to it. Each thing I added here including the tiny silver balls, are all sterling silver and actually, each piece has meaning to me so I guess taking all day to make it is A~OK. (years ago I could have made this in 10 minutes...not anymore!)

I'm pretty happy with it, what do ya all think?

This was given to me and I'd like to make a pendant with it. My problem is that I am not positive what kind of animal it came from and if it's a boars tooth, I really don't think I want to put feathers with it...and so on. So, I'm asking for your help.

It's 4~1/2" long from top to tip. It's not sharp and it is completely hollow. It also looks like it has a satin finish type sheen to it. I didn't realize but it's got a crosshatch type pattern on it, showing growth. I will see if I can get a photo clear enough to show you.

Any thoughts or ideas? I'd love to hear them all!

    Thanks a bunch.

The first photo reminded me of boar tusks that I've seen made into jewelry, it has, as you said, a satin sheen in to it. Boars have 2 sets of tusks, lower and upper. The lower ones, in boars, are generally semicircular in shape and triangular in cross section. You could compare against upper pics of sows vs. boars and then pics of lower tusks boars vs. sows but that may be way more information than you want..lol

Down here in TX we have several areas being overrun with feral hogs to the point where they come into neighborhoods and are a huge safety risk with small animals and children...much less adults. They are fierce fighters and smarter than many hunters give them credit for.

Oh wow, sounds a bit frightening! Although it's about the same here with the coyotes. They are even known to go in the house thru doggie doors, grab the dog and high tail it. I've also seen them about a foot away (I was inside by the sliding glass door) fighting with my pit. Now I have to keep her inside at night...they always want to tag team on her.

      BTW thanks for the info!

Was also going with boar tusk. I have some and that is the right size.
My cats stay inside. There would be more coyotes here but the mountain lions eat them. Still there are a lot of coyotes.

Boar, coyotes and mountain lions !!! We have badgers ha ha. Please show us the pendant when you have finished it.
    8. Vintagefran Vintagefran, 7 years ago
Cool! Wandlessfairy, love your comment, lol. I've not even seen a badger
    9. KarenLR71, 7 years ago
LOL...I love the stories. LOL @ Wandlessfairy regarding badgers. They are actually pretty fierce. I remember being shocked to find out that the cute little possums I always adored when I was little could actually shred your face.

shareurpassion - how much fun information your post has generated! We have issues with coyotes here too...including going in through doggie doors. I can't believe they fought with your pit! Guess they realize it takes more than 1 to get the better of a pit. Am glad you are keeping her safe!

Wow glad we don't have any of those critters here ! looks wicked . But I bet you can make it into something wonderful :-)
    11. shareurpassion shareurpassion, 7 years ago
Fortapache, I didn't know mountain lions eat them! Can I send all these your way? lol. There are absolutely no cats wandering the streets here any longer. None! And there used to be a lot. There are a lot of rabbits, then they'll also be gone for a while but make a quick come back then gone again. These coyotes are ruthless and so, so smart. One was trying to get my girl from one side, while the other would try from the other side. I definitely have a love/hate for them. They are very big too now a days! Oh, as for the tooth, thanks for that info! I appreciate it.
    12. shareurpassion shareurpassion, 7 years ago
Thomas, are you near the same area as KarenLR71? She said there's a lot there too! I was also thinking just because the tooth isn't sharp, I imagine with the power they must have, it wouldn't take much for them to jam that thing into what ever it was they wanted! With a force!
    13. shareurpassion shareurpassion, 7 years ago
Wandlessfairy, I most certainly will! Thanks for the love and comment! Appreciated!!

Vintagefran, I just realized I didn't mention that badger! Those are meaner than all above right? What does one do when faced with a badger? Yikes!
    15. shareurpassion shareurpassion, 7 years ago
KarenLR71, I'm glad all this came up too! Lots of fun and real life stuff here. Yes, they do go after her even with the two spot lights I put out there...they lure her over to the side of the house that's dark and all of a sudden I will hear a loud thud against the wall! They are afraid of me I will tell you that. I have run out there many times like a crazy woman...making sounds they have probably never heard! LOL! After they jump over the fence to get the heck away from me they probably ask each other...did you see that? What the (blank) was it???

I kid you not, one time the male took off with my dogs huge blanket. Looked like superman jumping out a window with his cape behind him...the next day, I looked down the hill and there was her blanket. The female and all the pups were probably laughing at him cuz I'm sure he thought it was her or something, I don't know!

Mani, you are very lucky then. See all the craziness? It's probably because they are so many more people now and all building homes etc crowding them out. And of course, there are those that feed them but moreso, it's us encroaching on their territory. I hope I can make something nice too. I've got lots of ideas floating around in my head. I was hoping it was a talon tho, but I'll show the final piece when I'm done. Don't hold your breath tho, I've already had this for over a year. I suppose timing is everything, let's see how it pans out! Thanks for loving and commenting.

Ok Val, your puns are worse than mine! haha I get it tho, it's just something I have to do, no matter how bad they are sometimes, I just have to do it. That was actually a pretty good one. So, boars tooth. hmmm I would love to see some photos! I've been thinking not to put feathers with it, it's not a flyer but maybe just do some leather and beadwork. That's if I can still do it! It's been a long time since I've done N.A. beadwork. Planning on it tho and been choosing beads out of my old stock for about 3 days now. Today I made a lot of great progress. Maybe we can get together and make it our project! That would be very cool!

      Share, agree with boar :-)
Waiting to see the result of its transformation!
I'm thinking of something rather wild and ethnic, rather than a posy holder, lol ;-)

Your coyotes stories are rather frightening... except the superman's cape one!

Totally agree with your opinion in comment #18...
Human activities and invasion of their territories force them to act like this :-(

Kyra, so good to see you! It would be great to have all 4 of the ...oooh, an idea just popped into my head. I wish I would have had a camera handy at that time he jumped the fence with that blanket! I just stood there with my mouth to the floor, in amazement. He had to have thought it was her or a pup I think because of the strong scent. What really makes it hard other than my girl getting hurt, and I don't want her fighting anyway, but she loves being out there at night. So I just let her in and out. She always knows when they are out there and wants to go 'play'.

Anyway, thanks for your input! Definitely no posy pendant!

This is in reply to a question you posted on my page: the number 70 doesn't have anything to do with the gold content. I'd have to see photos of it to be able to tell you any more. :-))))

Bonnie! haha thanks, you're not going to believe this but the ring was upside down I'm sure. So I believe its OL for the maker! haha Duh! right?!? I checked that post to see if you saw it but at the time you had not. I didn't want to bug you about it so I just left it alone. I did buy the ring anyway. They thought it was 4.6 grams 14k, when in reality it was 7.9 grams 14K plus I sold the guy an old brief case that had comic books and some war thunder games. So...I got a great deal anyway. Will post later. Thanks a bunch!

Great finished project! It has all the wilderness needed, plus the poetic feathers dangles and historical part with the Indian head :-)
Very clever to use leather for the mount!

Thank you Kyra! I feel special with you saying all that ;) Funny thing I was just going to make a comment here directly to you to ask you what you thought! Honestly, I do want to put larger pieces of turquoise on there but just don't want to go to all the trouble. It is unbelievably hard for me these days with my hands and eyes not wanting to cooperate, although I have to say, it was a good feeling that I completed it. The re-do is just going to have to wait...if ever! Thanks hon!
