You probably know already that I have a soft spot for Mexican jewelry. Recently I found this brooch/pendant. It displays the eagle mark with the number 3 for Taxco and the initials SH. It is rather heavy (44 grams) and large. There are overlapping marks so I am not sure if some of the information got lost. I believe it is Sterling silver even though that mark is not showing. The piece cleaned up like Sterling, but this no proof that it actually is Sterling. I would have bought it even if it is Alpaca because of the great craftsmanship.

The piece looks very similar but the markings on the back are different. It also says "metales" - metals? I have never seen that mark before. Usually Mexican pieces are marked with the number for the purity for silver, sterling, or Alpaca if it is an alloy. I have also seen beautiful pieces made of copper or brass- but metal? That could be anything. Any ideas?

O^O Love it!!! The 3 inside the eagle mark means it was registered in Taxco. I have a pendant which also says "Metales". No worries, it's silver. I tested mine.
I'm with you on Mexican jewellery :) particularly when it has an Aztec theme. It's wonderful!

``Eagle`` mark guarantees silver. No need for explicit ``sterling` mark.
