VERY clean and taken care of I would love to know how old it is and what it's actual use is.Has what looks like hand painted designs. Beautiful carvings on legs and clawed feet. I have more pictures. Not sure if stool goes with it or not. Can't find any markings but I don't know what to look for. PLEASE HELP.
Hi there. Well, seems like it is very nice. Are the drawers/corners rounded? We would really need to see a photo of the whole piece. Does it have a mirror or can you tell if it did have one? I'm guessing that it's maple and the painting could have been added by the previous owner but not positive about that. Have you pulled the drawers all the way out and looked at them even on the underneath. Also, look behind it for any tags or faded etching or stamps. Until all that, it's just a guess. You can add more complete photos by editing your post. Delete the photos you have and add new ones. Thanks.
Yes I have looked on the back underneath inside table and inside underneath and sides of each drawer. There are no marks where a mirror would have been attached but it could have been one that sits on top....I really don't know about a mirror. I will put pics of drawers and backside of table up now. Thank

If it helps the ball and claw legs are based on 1725 Chippendale
Carving on the leg appears to be a fleur de lis or variation of it.
"When we think of the ball and claw foot and cabriole leg, Thomas Chippendale may be our first thought. However, these design features were certainly in existence during the reign of Queen Anne (1702-1714) fifty years earlier. As a design feature, it still remains popular and has been revived many times."

Looks nice and useful. I don't see much age and the construction visible (bottom of drawer in photo #2) are typical of the late 20th century.

It's a really nice piece of furniture, and the stool looks like an excellent match. It may not be the original, but it's great - and, the upholstery is very pretty.
In my opinion it's the mirror that makes it a 'dressing table'. A place to sit and apply makeup, jewelry etc. The 'vanity', in Canada anyway, seems to be the equivalent of the British, 'cupboard under the sink in the bathroom'. It still has drawers and a cupboard (not present in a dressing table), along with a mirror. Clear as mud eh? That's the best way I can find to describe the two.
I purchased a little book a while ago, Its called the Antique dealers pocketbook by R.A Curtis. It has a lot of info/pictures of chair backs, legs, handles and feet of each Monarch or period dates with various other antiques from China to toys.
Queen Anne did have 6 -8 different styles available in her time but not Ball and Claw feet, That came out 11 years later. The problem with Chippendale comes when he released a book all furniture makers around the world are allowed to copy.
