This interesting small Victorian vase is made from pale yellow uranium glass with a heat reactive opalescent pattern. The vase has an unusual pinched form, & the foot has been folded back on itself - originally blown hollow to create the Brocade pattern, then flattened. Perhaps an experiment, as the result is not entirely successful - there is some trapped soot from the process.
It measures 9.5 cm tall, 9.5 cm across the pinched top rim, & 7.6 cm across the base, which has a snapped off pontil mark.
I know a few makers in England & America made Brocade patterned glass, but there's something about the quirkiness of this one that suggests John Walsh Walsh.
I like it's odd shape, and the soot personalised it's creator for me. Just great.
Absolutely - it has a quirky charm all of it's own! Soon as I saw it I knew it was for me...
What an unusual vase. Lovely.
