Jade Pendant with gold writing. Translation and history if known?

I have this Jade Pendant from my husbands mother. I need help with finding its history and the translation of the writing. It has a fine braided wrap and is rather thick it measures 1.5" round. The chain attached seems to be the original. It seems to be gold with the exception of the clasp which is slightly tarnished and reads (from what I can tell, N Sterling).
