I do not otherwise collect compacts, although if money and space were unlimited I easily could, but loved this one, perhaps because I love the film Gosford Park. The lady with bobbed hair in a long, low-backed gown, the gentleman in tails, dancing in front of a well stuffed sofa and a heavily draped window, this could have been a scene left on the cutting room floor.

If the information found doing a quick bit of research is correct, Stratnoid preceded Stratton as the company name. The 4.5cm (just under 2 in.) square compact is chrome plated. The scene is reverse painted on Celluloid, foil backed, giving a shimmering morpho butterfly wing effect to the gown and the water outside the window. Loose powder is contained by Stratnoid's Non Spill mechanism with a rotating cover for the powder compartment. The highly polished interior of the outside lid acts as mirror.

Only the metal of the sides is left unadorned. The metal lid of the interior compartment is grooved in the same manner as the substrate for guilloche enamel work. There are vertical grooves in the metal around the scene on the cover; the back has a more complicated cross-hatched texture. It has been personalized with the engraved initials 'M.D.'.

Google shows me a round compact with the same scene. Any additional information or corrections would be appreciated.

Will you be using it? Nice to flash around on a special date.

I haven't, but was just thinking as I had it in my hand - it is palm size - that since it takes loose powder & it's no problem finding an applicator that would fit, it really would be fun to say, I'll be right back. I just have to take the shine off my nose. :)

Wow! The scene is fantastic, it really gives the morpho effect :-D
So much things deserve collecting, only space and money lack to collect all that is appealing in such a way!

Yes, if you can, use it, bring it back to life!

The rug or piece of furniture glimpsed at 5 o'clock is also foil backed. A still photo does not fully capture the way this glints & gleams as the angle of light changes

Thanks all who also love it. :)
