This one was a truly RARE find.

The late 1860s carte de visite shows two Base Ball players in uniform-- one holds a bat and the other holds a ball.

The back has a full period ink identification of both players. I wasn't able to uncover any additional information on the players.

Online research has identified the team as the Allentown Stars and dates from 1866 or 1867!

This is so incredible! The uniforms they wore back then looked to be quite heavy and had to be difficult to run in.

Thanks scott-- it is a different game now.

I have a friend that plays in a 19th century baseball league. It is a great game to watch!

Could be wool. Remember, 20th century baseball uniforms were wool flannel up through the 1960s! They looked much better than the current uniforms.

Yes-- the bat does have some length to it!
