This set of "Hop Lo" salt and pepper shakers were by Vernon Kilns in 1941 to raise money for the "United China Relief" (UCR) in NYC. The UCR main function was to provide funds for the relief and rehabilitation of the Chinese people, to inform Americans on events in China, and to reassure the people of China of continued American concern and friendship. This is a rare "China Relief" matchbook cover. Inside each cover, was the application to send a donation for membership in "The United China Relief "Hop Lo" Club. The China Relief was located on 1790 Broadway in NYC.
