Large moonstone brooch tagged PARENTI STERLING on the back.
I saw this on Ebay a long time ago and the listing ended early. It
came back on this year and I purchased it. It is a lovely piece.
"Parenti is a rare mark seen on beautiful, handcrafted silver jewelry from the early 20th century. Parenti jewelry was made by the two Parenti sisters, who immigrated from Florence, Italy, to Massachusetts, USA. The sisters had been trained as silversmiths in Europe, and later opened a shop at 97 Newbury Street, Boston, Massachusetts. Pieces from the 1930's to the 1940's-1950's are available. The sisters had a second shop on Cape Cod."
Thank you for this informative and beautiful post, Wpj, I never heard of Parenti sisters before!
Very talented design and making :-)
I agree with kyra, I've never heard of these sisters before, a name to watch out for in the future. The moonstones colour are breathtaking.
I had not heard of them either but I love their work.
It is a demure but unique design as well. That really attracted me to it.
Beautiful a d great info. Thank you for sharing!
Greetings! I happened to recently perform a search out of curiosity regarding the Parenti Sisters and was surprised (and honored) that pieces of their jewelry collection still exists. They are my Great Aunts. I actually have a few pieces of their jewelry and my Uncle Louie used to design jewelry for them in their shop on Newbury Street in Boston. So nice to hear that others are enjoying the beauty of their creative jewelry after so many years.
Thank you for the email. I just love this brooch and was thrilled when I was able to trace it to your aunts and find their history. That is so great that you have some of their jewelry and your Uncle Louie designed some of their pieces. Thanks again for the email. Nadine
Hi Nadine,
I am so pleased to receive your comment especially since the last entries were a year ago. It amazes me when I think back into that era of time. My Mother spoke very highly of her Great Aunts and when she gave me pieces of their jewelry I was so much in awe. They lived on the Cape in Osterville and had a second jewelry shop down there. I just recall my Mother talking about their Newbury Street, Boston shop and to this day every time I pass by Newbury Street I think of them. Once again, I am so happy the moonstone brooch is in your possession......their legacy lives on!
