I see numbers on the bottom, very faintly but I believe they are there. Try the paper and pencil thing we did as kids. Remember? put the paper on top, hold it down and draw across the whole bottom of it and the markings should then show well. I see them on the top from about 12 o clock to 2 or 3 o clock
thanks shareurpassion. i can make out 'BAUER', but i can't tell what the numbers are - even doing an impression of them.
The impressed number will relate to the size of the pot - if it's about 7" tall, the number will be 7 etc. Bauer gardenware flower pots with this surface pattern were called "swirl" pots and the glaze treatment was called "speck".
Wondering because I can't tell from the photo - does the impressed mark actually read Bauer or does it read US Pottery?
yes, artfoot! i was reading it wrong. it does say u.s. pottery.
US Pottery operated out of Paramount here in Southern California. There hasn't been a lot of information available about them. Most accounts date them to the 1950-60s. As far as I know, they only made gardenware. Their "Swirl" pots are distinguishable from the Bauer swirl pots in that the swirls are more closely spaced and more numerous.
thank you artfoot! your knowledge is deep!
