Flea market find for my usual 1 EUR. This pretty vintage plastic bangle is 1,5 cm high and 8 cm wide. It is carved.
It has some age to it as you can see.
At first I thougt the material used was bakelite, but Simichrome test was negative. It is too heavy to be celluloid. Galalith maybe?
I would like to know your opinion.
P.S. identified as probably 1950's to 1970's - phenolic plastic - thank you valentino97!
P.P.S. Tried the smell test once again, compared to a pieces that I have where I am sure of bakelite.. yes, the smell is similar. It shows I have to learn to do the smell tests :)
This looks like modern/contemporary molded plastic to me. The edges of the design are too smooth, and I don't see evidence of any marks from a knife.
It is not molded. Pls check the 2nd picture, you will find traces of carving - above left.

It's easier to see when one can view the bracelet in person. You can test it to see if it's Galalith:

I thought so, too - photos cannot tell it all.
Thank you a lot - what a good article! I will do the test.
Thank you Ms.CrystalShip!
It does not smell like wet wool under hot water. To me it smells like - new tempera paint tubes.
Thank you valentino97 a lot! So mine has its black sibling!! I like it!!
