I know a couple of you fellas collect vintage power hand tools so I though, before I get rid of this, you might enjoy this bizarre accessory from Black & Decker that I picked up today at an auction. I've never heard of such a thing. This is their catalogue # 2312 "Chain Saw Attachment." It consists of an aluminum handle and an 11" long chainsaw bar (and a few miscellaneous parts) which bolt onto their "#73 and #83, 7 1/4" & 8" Super Service and H.D. Saws," in place of the circular blade and bearing retainer. The kit contains all the necessary parts. While this box looks pretty beat, it contains all the original parts and, except for some corrosion on the bar, everything appears unused. I don't see a date on any of the paperwork.

New to me. Must not have been a real good idea, or it wouldn't be so uncommon. After all, the triangular wheel should be and improvement over the square wheel because it eliminates one of the bumps. LOL !!

Yep....I've seen one of these before. Black and Decker also made a device to convert your drill into a power saw (Black & Decker D984 Circular Saw Attachment).

I've seen the conversion to circular saw. The chainsaw attachment was probably a copy of something we would come up with in the Islands. Like screwing a circular saw under a couple of boards & making a table saw of them. "Necessity is the mother of invention".

Yes, and common sense is the mother of intervention - like when somebody screws a circular saw under a couple boards to make a table saw. :-) I've seen the things that convert a drill to a saw. I'll bet they don't work too well either.
BTW: Mythbusters actually made square wheels for a pickup truck and they sort-of worked. The secret is to mount the opposite-side, and opposite-end wheels 45 degrees rotation to one another. That way (in theory) you always have two points on the ground. Of course they don't remain in that alignment too long.

Some of the things we come up with in the Islands to solve problems may make you laugh, but they usually get the job done ! Some of them, I even laugh at, - as I watch them get the job done. LOL !

Well, that just looks scary, and one for cleaning up the gene pool.

BB2- I have great respect for people who can solve problems in that way. My own attempts, on the other hand, usually end up in disaster. Fortunately, I haven't killed myself yet. :-)

racer- that's why I had to have it! If I had an old B&D #78 laying around I'd build the damn thing. Ha! In two weeks I'll give somebody the opportunity to do just that.

I've seen the conversion to circular saw to chain saw also ...see them for time to time at yard sales ...and thanks for the info on the wifes mini tools ...'-))
