I bought these 2 beauties at an estate sale. The top of the one on the right is broken off. The other one is in excellent condition.

I almost passed up buying both for several reasons. It was the first day of the sale, and, therefore, the most expensive day. More importantly, I didn't know who made these pieces. Murano? Scandinavian? Cheap, mass-produced knock-offs? And I don't like to buy broken pieces. Also, neither is signed or marked in any way.

But, the cost for both really wasn't so much and buying them then saved me a trip back. The colors in both are beautiful, clear, floating, and layered. While one color might cover another, the colors are not mixed. They are heavy, a good 5 pounds each. The unbroken one is 11 inches tall and the broken one is 9 inches tall. I think the top of the broken one can be easily rounded off. The fact that it is a different shape and color than the other intrigued me. All of these things have added to my belief, after some internet research, that they are, in fact, Flavio Poli Seguso Murano Art Glass.

I agree they are not a cheap knock off, and even with the damage just beautiful and excellent art glass. They should show some wear to the base and if you wanted a restorer could clean up the broken lip.
      Wonderful finds.

      These are lovely!

There are still versions of this teardrop sculpture being made today. I sometimes see both smaller and larger versions available for sale on eBay as contemporary pieces. I'm not sure, other than noting heavy wear, how you'd be able to date them as older pieces.

Thanks for all the loves, antiquerose, swfinluv1, Elisabethan, sklo42, Manikin, and iggy! Also, thanks for all the nice comments and information everyone.

I've added a couple of new photos, one of the bottoms. Neither bottom shows much wear, a few light scratches and tiny flea bites. I just noticed that the bottom of the broken one is kind of frosted while the other one is clear. I wonder what all this means. :)

Thank you so much, Jenni!! I'm usually not a good photographer. But, I do think I did capture the colors pretty well. :-) Take care. - Mary

I agree. The sommerso work doesn't seem that symmetrical to me and the edge of the base is not chamfered.
