"Victorian" photo ring

Belonged to my father. We never asked where or how it came to be. The photo is my mother and this is his favorite photo of my mother. He carried this photo all over Europe when he was in WW2.
I am wondering if he acquired the ring while in Europe and had mothers photo put in ring. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
