I bought this 1973 Amtrak brochure for 2 reasons. First off, I am a fan and long time rider of Amtrak and I collect Amtrak items. Second, the "enhanced" pictures of GG-1 locomotives makes me laugh. Most Eastern trains begin their journey on the PRR Northeast Corridor, which is a heavy duty, electrified 4 track mainline. It is not really a scenic highlight, with all of the overhead catenary and clutter. Amtrak beautified (or sterilized) the scene by eliminating all of the overhead wires in the photos, as well as the GG-1 pantographs! Of course, maybe PRR did run "dieselized" GG-1s that I don't know about! The 1973 brochure advertises the new Amtrak Broadway Limited. My photo shows the last run, Sept 9, 1995. This picture includes the missing pantographs and catenary.

There are some scenic rides around here I should take. Especially the San Diego train. Goes right along the ocean.
