This is the Farm Master HI-Line Electric Fence Model 208-7776. It is the control and power unit for an electric fence. Sold by Sears and Roebuck it is the power pack and controller for an electric fence made to keep farm animals in and perhaps keep some others out. Do not try and cut the wires on this fence.
Not finding any information as to age. Every link I find goes to one for sale on ebay.
This one has a gauge on the front badge which is difficult to read. The top inside has a pair of fuses. It is a bit dirty. The underside has the controls for Normal and Dry. Up here Dry would be normal as the humidity level is usually low. Got a feeling this one may not be working but I think I will pass on trying it out.

My guess is that it's from the mid to late 40s, but I'm not sure

It looks '50s or '60s and the Google Books show mid 1950s references to Farm Master electric fences put out by Sears.... Co.

I have a couple of electric fence controllers in my collection. They are pretty cool. I think I posted one earlier but deleted it afterwards. Maybe an electric fence controller convention is in order .... I'll bring the power cords :)

Oh how I remember the electric fences on the farm I grew up on. I've been shocked by the electric fence many times.

Thank you very much Scott. Apparently you did eventually escape the farm.

One other thing to *never* do with a fence wire energized by one of these machines -- besides just being dared to touch it with your hand -- is to otherwise accept the dare to . . . ummm . . . how do we say this . . . ''take a l*eak' on it . . . one never needs a 2nd reminder why not to do that... <LOLOL>
