Hello everyone! 9" tall sage green vase and ashtray. Bottom of tray has DALT and EIN OCCUPIED JAPAN. Which obviously was made in occupied Japan, but whats missing from the first part of DALT? The vase has 2392 or 2322 on bottom, nothing else.
I think the vase is Schafer Vater jasperware from Germany.
AdeleC, that's what I was thinking also. The similarities are too close to Jasperware to not be. Wedgewood perhaps? But the made in Japan thing throws me off.
This mark is for Ardalt, an American company started 1945, who imported a lot of quality ceramics from Japan. (and other countries).
I found this:
" After WW II, the Nippon porcelain Company and other Japanese companies produced jasperware--much of it in imitation of the blue and white classical ware produced by German Schaefer & Vater (which possibly entered Japan before and during the war) rather than the Wedgwood versions that were cut off from Japan. The Lefton Company of Chicago also commissioned jasperware from Japan and added this to its line of china produced in Japan and (later) Taiwan."
If you search for Japan jasperware you should find other examples.
Thank you racer4four, great info! Appreciate it!
