I purchased this brooch at a resale. It is one of my favorites. It is a heavy metal black brooch with a golden peach. It measures 2" x 1.5". I have seen Victorian Hand brooches, but I am uncertain if this brooch is of that time period. Could this be a mourning brooch?
I know I had a Victorian era doorknocker that looked just like this...all bronze tho. I would imagine the you chose was right but on the other hand (haha get it?) It doesn't seem likely they would do brooches and doorknockers design, so maybe this is a later one, don't know!
Shareur,
I get it...on the other hand (haha!) Thanks for the information. It is heavy and right near the pin area, it is turning green. Does that indicate a certain metal? Could be a later one, I will do a little more research. You certainly gave me a place to start. Thanks again...
Look on the end of the C clasp for a mark, as brooches are sometimes marked there. That green stuff is verdigris. It's corrosive and will ruin the metal. Some white vinegar on Q-Tip and a very soft toothbrush should remedy the problem.
Thank you Valentino and Efesgirl for the information, I will clean asap.
It's beautiful ..I would have thought 50's
I cropped and enlarged the life out of it. There seems to be something on the C ring
Lizzyscbw, I see small grooves. Now in the middle of the hand there is an etched K. Other than that, I can't see a signature. Thank you for the 50's, it gives me an idea of an era.
