Little light fixtures like this are (were?) often found in bathrooms, but this one actually lived on the wall over my grandparents' bed in the "old" farmhouse. (razed 20+yrs ago) I actually have memory of it there, then. Not sure if I knew that Mom had saved it...certainly didn't realize that she had done so specifically with me in mind...but what the heck, here it is. And it *is* cute?! :-) :-)
It could easily date from the 1930's-40's, and its ceramic base is about 6" at its longest, with the shade attached it would protrude about 8" from the wall. There is an Underwriter's Laboratories label on its backside which includes a script logo reading "Porcelier", and the words "P100 PORCELIER 250W 250V" appear on the backside of the light socket itself. The power outlet under the light bulb is cast into the porcelain base of the fixture, not a separate piece attached to it like the light socket is.
The ceramic fixture itself appears to be in flawless condition (save for slightly rusty shade thumbscrews) and the milk glass shade only has various tiny 'fleabites' around its outer rim -- if in fact it wasn't actually made that way from the beginning. (?)
Simple and functional.... like me :)
Cool little light fixture!
