This is a 41 cm long glassbead neclace in blue and white that I think are Czechoslovakian, they look very much like beads by the Nieger brothers. I'm thinking these might be but restrung. The lady who sold this to me at the same time sold a classical red Max Nieger necklace. I did not manage to buy that unfortunately. She did not know who was the makers, she didn't seam knowlegable about costume jewelry.

I haven't seen this composition before which might be both god and bad :) I mean if there are a lot of them around you also see frauds but if there is only this one it is hard to get an anwer at all. Anyway I didn't pay a lot and I like it. I'm thinking these are from 1920-30's, the glassbeads and the filigree looks it.

Thank you very much Valentino! Neiger beads are not known here I would say. I have only once seen these types of beads once where I live and it was this necklace and the red one from the same seller. Yes the price was low on the red one as well but that doesn't mean it was not the real thing. To her it was only vintage necklaces and as there is hardly any market for costume jewelry where I live, the price didn't go up that much. I missed the necklace because of a online tecnicallity, it makes me sick thinking of it. It was a one time chance maybe and I missed it!?! :( :) But I have the blue....

Hi Elisabethan! Great to see you!!! The shocking blue is what attracted me to this piece. It's gorgeous. AND I hope my clue for you here is right. I have 2 necklaces, not like this but Czech confirmed by being marked in the strangest place because it's the only place that's marked. haha I just stopped and saw that our sweet Valentino gave you the answer you were looking for! BUT I will still tell you, look with a loupe on the ring itself that the clasp attaches to. It very well might say "Czechoslovakia" and I will bet 10 to 1, that red necklace will come your way one day soon. Keep thinking positively about it. I say, Dream it real! It works. ;)

I'll see how my photo skills are working today and take a shot at a photo for you. I hadn't noticed that I didn't send this yet! I'm surprised it's still here...and, I got the shot. I'll post it for you now!

Here you go. And although it may not relate to this, I think you might be able to use this info. You just never know where a mark will be or when you will find it. Always go with your gut. It tells you things you may not understand, but it will never "lie" to you ;)

No mark was found, but from the beads and your advise it is safe to say they are czech. I also think they are genuin Neiger brothers beads but I will wait and see if anyone has seen the composition before I mark it as solved. I am sure this is restrung and I intend to do it as well to get a nicer cord and maybe knots in between the beads.

It has definitely been restrung. The clamshell bead tips are modern & have not even dulled yet, as they do with time since they are not gold. I'm staying out of the Neiger/not Neiger debate, but the silver beads may not originally have been with the others. They look more like the Bali silver type that can be found in any bead store today.

Cameosleuth I think you were just in the Nieger debate :), thankyou for your view on things.

I think the glass beads are genuinely old, although often enough bead stores will sell vintage beads. Tried to stay out of Neiger or not because even though I sometimes look through eBay listings for Egyptian jewelry & in doing so now & again see pieces IDed as Neiger, I have no idea whether those sellers are correct. This seller seems pretty confident: http://www.ebay.com/itm/361711207489
Some of the same beads used here, along with the mummies: http://www.ebay.com/itm/382187425103

Both of these have been knotted so the beads do not grind together & the strand is supple, another clue that this necklace is not in its original state. :)

Cameosleuth sorry for late response. I just saw your message. Yes I agree it must have been restrung and yes it is hard to tell if Neigher or not. In this case I saw another necklace from the same seller which had all going for it. That together with the information about who had owned them and that persons country of origin further made me think this is right but restrung. But I will never know for sure. If you know and accept they might just be vintage beads it fine buying them :)
