Along with my other boxes i found in my local charity shop, i came across this one.

It's wood, and looks hand carved. I'm not sure what material the white flower shape is made of in the lid, but it's flat and not raised from the box itself. Possibly just painted?

The inside has blue felt on the top and bottom sections.

Pretty sure it is handmade, lots of nails hammered into the base.
The base does have the letters "IND" pressed into it...i'm thinking the word was meant to be "INDIA" and it just didn't get pressed properly, or it's faded out.

I don't know the year, but after having a look around online, i'm pretty sure sure its a hand carved decorative box, made in India :)

If anynone has any more info, or i've got something wrong, please do let me know :)

They're made just like this today. When our pets die and get cremated, they come back to us in boxes like this starting in 2008 from our local crematorium, continuing on to at least this year as our dog, Rhoada, died and came back in an about identical, longer box last month.
As for hand-made, yes. They sometimes make errors that a machine wouldn't make, and each has its differences.
I think they're inlays of something.
As for what came in yours, I know not. My guess is, they're made en mass for the general market. I see them from time to time in thrift-stores in many sizes.

Oh wow, thank you so much for that information!
So, a pretty modern handmade box.
Oh I wonder what this one was used for?

So sorry to hear about the passing of your dog :( xx

Sorry to hear about your dog too SpiritBear!

I know these came out in the late 60's early 70's. If I remember correctly, it was mother of pearl, could be camel bone tho...India. What color if any is inside. Somehow I remember purple.

I have one of these too that I kept some Jewelry in. I know I have had mine since at least the early 1970's here. I still have mine, and it is extactly like yours the design and everything. Will look to see if I can find it as I still have boxes packed up from when I moved...LOL

I think i just got mine as a Xmas gift from someone back then..

@shareurpassion I would guess camel bone, as it's not a shiny flower like i would expect mother of peral to be? So you could be right with the camel bone (again lol, just saw you on my other box post).

@antiquerose Ohh, so thats pretty much the consensus here then...1970's :) Thank you. Would be great to see photographs of yours too when you find them :)
