I love American Empire. These are classics of the style, and both have FANTASTIC mahogany veneers. I'd generally bracket date these from about 1840- 60s.

The one on the right has replaced pulls-- originally it would have had simple wood pulls like the other (or maybe glass pulls). If you look at the back of the drawer behind the current pulls, you should see a center hole from the original pull.

The current pulls are Chippendale STYLE (18th century), but probably later made. They would be worth a good bit on their own IF original.

At this point it is going to be hard to put it back into original shape. The extra holes will leave marks and the wood has probably aged differently under the pulls (depending on how long they have been there).

American Empire and almost every other 19th century furniture style is not really in vogue now so bargains abound in this area. It is a GREAT TIME TO BUY. Antique styles seem to be cyclical, so it will come back in vogue again some day!

Thanks for sharing and welcome to CW.

Thanks scottvez I did notice the pulls had been replaced on the one before I purchased it, but that's ok I still feel like they are definitely worth what I paid for them . I purchased them simply because I love the beautiful style . Thank You for the information. I do appreciate it . DDR

Glad to help out. This is a great time to purchase-- solid wood, will last several lifetimes, and often priced at only a little more than a comparable stack of firewood!
