I had to take pity on this little ceramic pitcher, after nobody else ultimately claimed it from the auction racks. I admittedly don't really know squat about pottery/ceramics, but it was just a little too cool to send off to Goodwill...? ;-) :-)
It measures about 6-1/2" tall and 4-1/2" across its bottom, about 6" across handle and spout. The white glaze on its inside also 'drizzles' down into the kinda gold colored glaze on most of the rest of its outside. Pattern of sorta 'candle' shaped vertical decoration around its base. Its only marking is the number "52/75" and word "JAPAN" on its bottom, there is also a tiny fragment of a small gold/green paper label which is no longer extant. (but I do remember it being there decades ago) The glaze on the entire piece is now 'crazed', as can be seen in the closeup pic.
Can anybody tell me anything about it?? Any clues would be most appreciated, I don't really even know where to start looking myself?
Well OK, this is interesting.
If 'ya don't know where to start researching something nowadays, try looking on eBay.
Which in this case didn't yield any actual "useful information" at all to help find out anything about my pitcher -- but *did* turn up another one, of totally different shape but seemingly the same colors/glaze/pattern/condition -- and (most frustratingly?!) the same EXACT marking on its bottom...???
