I just saw a similar small table like this that was 24 or 25 inches tall. Some auction house put one up for sale before as I saw one on line then realized it was a fair bit smaller than mine. They are made of walnut and this one could use a cleaner like restore a finish which would cover your scratches. Mine was the larger table, well kept and had no scratches, but I also use restore a finish polisher which works well on the wood to polish it. I have seen them in America quite a bit so wonder if some furniture maker in the U.S. was making them. Some of the ones I have seen (4-5) were for sale in the Chicago area, and some auction houses thought they were Italian made but most auction houses have owners who have not seen a lot of antique furniture. In my larger table the inset is a beautiful black golden striated marble, and I usually had seen ones in complete wood, although some had raised centres which did not work so well. I think they are all treasures from all the ones I have seen. Wish I would have seen a smaller one also. Not sure if some were newer made also, yours reminds me of 1940's carving, hard to see finer carving on the figures faces, but hard to tell if not seen in person. I think yours looks like it had a glass cover for the centre on top, so it would work better with that.

I think that the restore a finish beeswax polish would make this piece of yours just shine with quality as that beeswax is amazing.

Thanks for all the info I havent done much to the table life has gotten busy I gently cleaned it and will try the restore beeswax soon. really dont want this piece to be shoved away and forgotten.
