i found this today at my favorite segunda in Berkeley too. I really like this one. it reminds me of the dock painters selling their paintings to tourists where i lived and worked in Ogunquit, Maine many years ago. Dave Youngdahl is a listed painter here in the Bay Area since way back. i don't know much about him, but i do like this painting.
Dave Youngdahl 1942-1990. This piece is an eexcellent example of his early work. He was an alumni of the California Collage of Arts and Crafts. He was most known for his paintings of rural California on deep wrap arounds using acrylic. Rustic barns, meandering roads and an occasional sea scape were his favorite subjects. I know all this because I am his daughter. So crazy seeing this post. Good memories!
Wow!! thank you Simplertimes! i really like this painting alot. the composition and use of the space is A+. I included it in an old box wall i made at the nursery over the past few days. i'll take some pics and post them soon. thank you for giving us this information about your dad!
Its a great painting ho2cultcha! Enjoy! In his hay day in the "80's" he had his work in galleries all over California, with some in Nevada and even Hawaii I think he was the most popular in the bay area and up and down the coast. Santa Cruz was his play ground in his youth and you can really see the influence in your piece. Thanks for letting me reminisce. Love this piece. It's so playful with the sea gulls in flight. Blessings!
