    Is this a picture frame? It's lightweight wood. Has an 800 embossed on back. The frame part is hinged.

      This reminds me of some of the picture frames made during the first world war times.

      From the Eastlake movement, 1836-1906 although I've not seen one exactly like this. Yours reminds me of the boxes used to make the cuckoo clocks. I wonder if your was more of a calendar holder??? Could be, it's very cool.

      Frames from this time were also considered "tramp art". Here's a great research site for you. It takes a lot of scrolling and clicking to possibly find what you have.

      What I find even more odd to me is your ruler! haha I've never seen one that's 18" before. I take it you are not in the USA!
