I suspect this was originally a tea cup that eventually made its way into the hands of a man that made it his shaving mug. The cup/mug came from an estate sale of an elderly woman whose "Grandad Poovey" (according to the old and brittle tape) used this beauty for his shave mug.
It appears to be an 1880's - 1910's Victorian Lusterware mug with raised-relief flower. The luster and sheen of the deep purple and red/orange are so vivid and bright! I suspect it originated out of Germany (many, if not most like this did), but there is no maker's mark on the bottom.
The mug measures 3-1/4" across the mouth (4-1/4" with handle) and 3-1/8" high.
