This is a GMB planter about 18 inches tall and about 12 inches wide. The style and color speak for itself. I was told it may be an "end of day piece" but not sure. Does anyone identify this or know of it? I can't find it anywhere on the inter net.

Fabulous piece! Certainly not a decor that was commercially offered and most likely created by a GMcB factory worker in some spare time. Somewhat difficult to date (the Lincoln plant is still operational) but my best guess is this dates from around the WWI era.

i agree w/ artfoot! what a fabulous 'end-of-day' piece! end-of-day pieces were made in the different pottery factories by workers after their shifts - and using up the rest of the glazes for the day. they often used them for drip or blended glaze pieces that they could take home or sell as they pleased.

Found it in the Elliot-Bishop GMcB text, page 46. Referred to as a "Paint Pot".

Description below states "Pot No. 100 is made in Jacob's Coat of running glazes and has the charm of a discarded palette"

So essentially a production glaze made to simulate and end of day piece.

Although the catalog reprint is undated, it's in a portion of the book covering mid 1920 to very early 30s.

Nice find! Never seen another like it.

Just to narrow the range a bit. The form does not appear in a 1932 catalog reprint.

Thanks art.pottery, I missed it in the book and it's the first one I've seen as well.
