Hi Steptoe. These remarks apply to all of your 3 new postings. All cameos helmet shell, probably 1940s - 50s, cut &, for the ones that are, set in Italy.

I have had more than one person selling an inherited cameo tell me that someone brought it back after serving in the military & being stationed in Italy after that country surrendered. That local artisans would go tent to tent, peddling their hastily produced wares for a bit of cash. Some of these may have been acquired in that way, or they may all be souvenirs/exports from the next dozen years.

By this time the level of quality had declined considerably from the Georgian & high Victorian eras, and the 'pretty lady' subjects are modern beauties, not classical goddesses. The other clue is in the types of clasps & hinges: styles still used today. The evolution of the safety clasp is one of the most helpful things in dating 20th century jewelry. :)

Hi thanks cameo for helping with info on these cameos , these look very crudely done but still nice the first one I posted seems quality and seems to have a mark on the silver. I don't normally pick up cameos but if I come across any I will take a closer look, from now on.

Two of the settings looked marked as 800 silver, a lower level of purity than the 925 required to qualify as sterling. Britain & the US did not use it, but it was once standard in European countries.

The mark on the bail of this pendant appears to be stamped 800, with another mark - letters? -in front of that. (May need to call in Efesgirl to decipher that part.) The lacy canetille filigree wire work setting of the other 800 piece is also characteristic of Italian jewelry of this type.

Another clue to the more recent production I did not mention is the way the cameos are held in place by prongs on the front & back rather than being bezel set, as most earlier ones were.
