PostCardCo…

I cannot imagine my grandmother walking my dad down these streets!! I am sure she had a tight grip on his little hand! In the past they did use a harness and leash set up for little ones. NOW, I know why!! Altho this photo is listed in Early Chicago as a B&W photo--at 1909 (Way before daddy was born)..this card is a bit later I believe-- It was mailed in 1919. Somewhere in the history there may have been an error, and I'd rather trust the postmark and the color card
Chicags Trolley jam. 1909-18, Dangerous!! Horses. trucks .people all at an impass!
See ice truck bottom center? Probably nothing but water in those contaierns!!
I always thought they sold by the block. But maybe the containers had dry ice in them..
I have some postcards this reminds me of. Sometimes they did reprint these images lithographically, using a previous image. A lot of them were sent over to germany for the painting and printing process, although most of them mention the printed in germany on the back. Most often however they got the colours wrong but that was one of their beautiful mistakes.
I typed into Google "Early Chicago Photos" and this photo was there--but in B&W dated 1909 Traffic Jam.
I noticed there does nott seem to be a police presence anywhere! How did that ever break up-- and it must have taken quite some time!
I see a few men in the same white hat and same blue frock coat(?) on horseback-- one most noticeably in the bottom centre-right. Possible police or constables?
The guy riding the horse?
THANKS!
